More about the YMCA and Foyer centres involved....

Fruit-full Communities project worked with young people living in YMCA and Foyer Housing Schemes, Supported Lodgings and/or attending YMCA Youth Groups to design and plant fruit orchards on their doorstep. They learnt how to plan, budget and organise work, prepare the ground, get materials and tools and how to plant and look after the trees. They also learnt other skills, including how to work as a team and how to communicate and express their own ideas and aspirations. For some of them this was the first time they engaged in activities with fellow residents and users.
Over the three years of the project we engaged 1117 young people, 360 community volunteers and over 200 YMCA and Foyer staff, who also played an active part in this project. Together they planted 42 orchards making a positive change in their local environment.
